  Electric Fence Ideas

Temporary electric fences and rotational pasturing in a fantastic sustainable grazing concept. If you are not doing it you should. Running fence through the woods and moving it around often require some innovation. Here are a few things I do that are super fast and easy. Use trees not fence post, then put step-in post in the open spaces. Always remember the fence cannot touch anything except an insulator.

First is using a tree where the fence pulls away from the tree. Using standard aluminum fencing wire we went around the tree then around the insulator after you slip it over the poly-wire. After you tighten the fence you can adjust the insulator if needed.

The next idea is using a tree where the fence pulls around the tree. We used a steel post and insulators. Against the tree you can normally only drive it into the ground a few inches before hitting a root. This has been more than enough for me. the wire tension holds the post against the tree just fine keeping the wires off the tree.

Last is my gate idea. A steel post fits perfectly into the center hole on the wood screw in insulators. Looping the hot wire around the post makes it hot. Then you can just hook the insulated gate hooks anywhere on the steel post.
